Resident asks Lexington to address nuisance locust trees; mayor raises trespass concern

Charles Comstock told the Village Council he is seeing heavy shedding from locust trees that leaves thorns, seeds and branches in his yard and, he said, can reach the Village storm sewer system. Comstock asked the council to consider helping homeowners trim or remove nuisance trees or to explore ordinances targeting clusters of problematic trees.
Mayor Bob Jarvis responded that the village faces limits on taking action on private property and said identifying which trees merit intervention would be difficult. He asked, “Where does the Village draw the line?” and noted concerns about trespass if the village were to trim trees on private lots. Jarvis also said one parcel recently logged is being sold at auction and that responsibility for that property will rest with the new owner.
