Commission hears public-art cleaning progress; Bape Walls repair completed

City staff reported that the first round of the public-art cleaning program with Horizon Hygiene was completed and that previously dirty sculptures now appear clean. Staff noted one mural on a MARTA wall could not be finished that day because permissions and drainage issues required additional coordination.
Staff also said Vera completed the Bape Walls community wall fix in about three days; the commission has received her invoice and staff will charge it to this year’s public-arts budget even though the repair was not originally budgeted. Commissioners discussed conservation options for an aluminum panel that needs chemical stripping and re-powder coating or replacement by the artist.
