Council presses staff on why park grant funds for batting cages and stream restoration remain unspent
Summary
Council members said grant funds for batting cages and stream restoration remain unused — one grant reportedly good for up to two years and another worth about $300,000 — and urged staff to obtain estimates and act before funding lapses.

Council members expressed frustration Sept. 30 that multiple parks projects funded by grants have not progressed despite available funds.
Mr. Mayo asked why a previously discussed batting-cage grant, which he said is "good for two years," has not been used and urged staff to obtain estimates so projects can begin. He said, "The money is there" and asked why installation couldn't happen this year. Council member Gorman recalled the Little League had offered a donation toward the cages but staff said they had not yet secured estimates.
Ms. Hoover pointed to a larger unspent stream-restoration grant of about $300,000 and said the city is in its third year without starting work: "We have $300,000 and we haven’t even started that project yet." She urged caution about approving additional park funding before existing grants are spent.
Finance Director Dave Lewis said he would follow up with staff and that project leads are temporarily unavailable; council asked for estimates and clearer timelines before reallocating or approving further park money.
