Residents press council on homelessness, housing, meeting accessibility

During the public‑comment portion of the Jan. 5 meeting, residents urged the council to prioritize housing and homelessness and asked for clearer, more accessible meeting presentations. Brandi Douthitt told the council, "This is a human issue," and criticized committee assignments that she said create the appearance of conflicts and hinder solutions after a recent fatality tied to exposure.

Resident Connie Bancroft asked the council to improve meeting audio and visual displays so the public can hear discussions and understand agenda items; she said, "the meetings are very difficult to hear what is being said." Another resident, Ben Bolog, suggested using the meeting TV screen to display ordinances and asked about rental inspections and a possible rental registration program after repeated landlord‑related complaints. Council members acknowledged the concerns and said follow‑up and committee review would be needed on housing and code enforcement topics.
