Alliance council approves $1.4 million resurfacing program and $220,000 South Liberty project

The Alliance City Council voted Jan. 5 to move forward with two road‑resurfacing projects, approving Ordinance 077‑25 for the citywide 2026 Comprehensive Road Resurfacing and Overlay Program in an amount not to exceed $1,400,000 and Ordinance 080‑25 for the South Liberty Avenue Street Resurfacing Project at a cost not to exceed $220,000. Both measures were adopted by unanimous roll call.

Streets and Alleys Chair Kris Bugara said he supported the measures and praised public works crews for recent winter and leaf work, noting, “Shout out to John Bertolini for getting the leaves done and all the work over New Years. They did a great job.” Safety Service Director Dreger had earlier described heavy New Year’s snowfall and confirmed crews received a salt delivery after running low during storm response. The ordinances allow the director to advertise for bids and enter into contracts within the stated appropriation limits.

The council’s action preserves funding authority and clears the way for the department to solicit contractors and finalize schedules. The projects were introduced as part of the city’s 2026 street maintenance priorities; staff and committee review were referenced in the meeting packet. No amendments to the funding amounts were proposed at the meeting, and both ordinances were adopted as presented.
