District leaders outline family-engagement shift and roll out a Transformative Equity Leadership Plan

District leaders briefed the committee on several summer leadership events that will shape the 2025–26 professional learning calendar. Dr. Leith described the family-engagement work and the distinction between family involvement (events) and family engagement (co-created learning that strengthens student outcomes); he said the district included caregivers on the delegation to the Harvard training. "When family engagement is done effectively, it can lead to things like reducing absenteeism, improving academic outcomes and increasing trust," Dr. Leith said.
Dr. Jimenez Sandoval introduced the Transformative Equity Leadership Plan (TELP), grounded in six principles (including "Fixing injustice, not kids" and "care, joy and sustainability") and said school and district leaders have been asked to draft TELP-aligned SMART-y goals and share them with supervisors by Sept. 29. The administration said the plan will be cross-walked with other local frameworks such as Building Equity Bridges and embedded in school-improvement goals and evaluations.
