Council reappoints multiple board members amid councilor’s request for earlier notice

Steubenville City Council approved multiple mayoral reappointments Sept. 9, including William Hendricks to the Planning and Zoning Commission and John Barnes to the Fair Housing Practices Board. Motions to accept the mayor’s recommendations were seconded, passed on roll-call votes with all ayes and Mayor Jerry Barilla declared the motions carried.
During discussion about Hendricks’s reappointment, Council Member Walker said the council received an email the same evening noting six reappointments and asked for more advance notice so members could review and raise concerns if needed. Mayor Barilla responded that recruiting volunteers for boards is difficult and expressed support for the nominees. No appointment was delayed and council proceeded with the votes.
