Dell Rapids Library Board approves finance report after director flags unexpected costs

The Dell Rapids Library Board approved its finance report after the Library Director told members the budget shows several early-year overages.

"Everything is looking pretty well," the Library Director said, while noting that the library is "a little over" in machinery and equipment and that some Microsoft Office licenses had expired and needed replacement. She told the board a failed battery in the data closet required a replacement that would cost "about $700 and some dollars," which she said was cheaper than replacing the entire unit.

City Council Member pressed for clarity on how personnel and insurance figures are calculated; the Library Director said those top-line personal-services numbers have historically been set by "Claire" and that the new finance officer, Christina, will be consulted when the board begins formal budget work in June. The City Council Member also said the library had spent roughly 27% of its utilities budget with about a quarter of the year elapsed and asked staff to project utilities more accurately during planning.

After discussion, the Chair called for a motion to approve the finance report; a motion was made and seconded and the report was approved by voice vote. The public transcript records aye responses but does not contain a roll-call tally of individual votes.
