Council adopts water and sewer rate resolutions, lowers surcharge amounts

Dell Rapids city staff presented four resolutions that had been discussed previously and were adopted at the March 16 meeting: Resolution 2026-66 (set water rates), Resolution 2026-67 (lower water surcharge rates), Resolution 2026-68 (set sewer rates) and Resolution 2026-69 (lower sewer surcharge rates).
The finance officer explained the resolutions formalize rate changes approved in December 2025 and that the water surcharge decrease equates to about $4.12 per month (roughly $49.44 annually). The staff also indicated the sewer surcharge decrease will lower annual charges (the finance officer described an example total around $123 per year for accounts). Council moved, seconded and adopted each resolution by voice vote; the effective timing will align with April billing because of ordinance implementation timing.
