Cedar Hill High principal highlights algebra changes, attendance and staff vacancies

Courtney Washington, principal of Cedar Hill High School, presented a campus spotlight focused on algebra instruction and campus priorities. Washington said CHHS's attendance rate is 92.84% (up 0.17 percentage points from 2024) and described curricular adjustments intended to improve DCCA and ExactPath results: "We started Exact Path later this year due to technical and scheduling issues," she said, and the campus will revert to running ExactPath during the last 30 minutes of each class to increase fidelity.
Washington described changes to district-comparison common assessments (DCCAs), moving from three interim DCCAs to two per semester and tracked teacher-level performance. She also identified staffing challenges: "Currently, we have six teacher vacancies, six teachers and one paraprofessional," she said, and noted a substitute is covering an algebraic-reasoning role while the campus works to restore a full FTE. Trustees asked about the effect of moving RTI time to Fridays and the campus's mitigation steps; Washington said data showed Friday-only implementation was disrupted by AB schedules and events, prompting the return to daily RTI time.
Washington highlighted positive culture and student voice: extracurricular participation is 752 students, and student survey responses rose from 850 last year to 1,755 this year. The board discussed attendance targets and incremental celebration of improvement milestones.
