City updates precious-metals dealer licensing to meet fingerprinting and data-protection requirements

Planning and licensing staff presented amendments to the license for dealers of precious metals to align local ordinance language with state and federal background-check requirements. The changes will allow the city to fingerprint applicants and receive background-check results from the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC), the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the FBI.
Staff said the wording was updated to clarify how applicant data will be protected. No action was taken at the work session; staff recommended the drafted ordinance be included in the Tuesday meeting packet for formal consideration.
