District proclaims February Career and Technical Education Month, students recognized

Tony Willis, superintendent of Calhoun County Schools, read and signed a proclamation declaring February Career and Technical Education Month for the district and invited students and officials to a group photo. The proclamation is dated February 19. "I, Tony Willis, superintendent of Calhoun County Schools, do hereby proclaim the month of February as Career and Technical Education Month in Calhoun County," he read to the board and audience.

Students from district high schools described recent CTE gains and opportunities. "My name is Caitlin Dumar, and I'm from Weaver High School. I'm serving as the central district vice president for the Alabama FFA Association," Caitlin Dumar told the board, outlining how CTE pathways combine academics with hands-on learning. Tristan Brown, state parliamentarian for SkillsUSA from White Plains High School, noted facility upgrades — including a new greenhouse at Saks High School and a renovated welding lab at the career center — and said an OHADGIE FFA program was selected from about 240 programs nationwide for an agriculture-in-the-classroom grant.
