Student-run FLIPS STEM camp praised by trustees after impacting 80 children

Arntel Lee, a junior at North Crowley High School who serves as a FLIPS organizer, told the Crowley ISD Board of Trustees that the student-run STEM camp impacted about 80 children and engaged more than 40 high-school volunteers.
"Our camp impacted 80 children, which is very exciting," Lee said during a recognition segment. He told trustees the camp included 15 middle and elementary school representatives (three were from outside Crowley ISD) and that many of the participating campuses were Title I. Lee asked for additional funding to improve stations and expand the program.
Trustees praised the student leadership and suggested ways to help scale the effort. One trustee noted the camp’s ability to "spark" interest in STEM and encouraged the student to work with trustees to connect with more campuses; another suggested recruiting district support to formalize partnerships and donate resources.
The board invited Campbell leaders and student volunteers to come forward for photographs and public recognition. Trustees said they want to help amplify the program and explore district-level support for future camps.
