Board to form subcommittee to overhaul borrowing and past-due policy with goal of January implementation

Under state library standards the board must review policies at least once every three years; the director proposed forming a policy review subcommittee of at least two board members plus the director to begin work in June. The subcommittee will review multiple policies, with the borrowing and past-due policy identified as a complex priority involving due dates, automatic renewals and overdue notices.
The director said staff want the policy language finalized well before the public-notice period so any approved changes could be communicated beginning in September and take effect Jan. 1. Board members volunteered for the subcommittee and agreed to meet with staff over the summer to draft proposed language for the December meeting.
