Council opts to keep fuel purchases local for now amid competing discounts

In public comment earlier in the meeting, Michael Park urged the council to keep purchases local and noted his business’s long service to the community and willingness to support the bus program.
Clarence, the public works director, urged the council to stay with the local supplier while the city is not yet forced by procurement rules to accept a different discount. "He's given signs to the baseball association... Keep it local means a lot," Clarence said. After discussion about federal funding rules and procurement, a council member moved to continue buying fuel from the local supplier; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
What happens next: staff will continue current procurement with the local supplier; if/when federal or state funding terms require taking a lower bid from another vendor the council will be advised.
