Tonopah Elementary opening pushed to next school year; district outlines facility updates

The district’s facilities director, Nate Cardinal, told the board that Tonopah Elementary construction is ahead of schedule but the district has delayed the building’s opening until the next school year to avoid interrupting current students and allow staff to focus on the present year. "The opening has been delayed until the next school year," Cardinal said.
Cardinal provided additional maintenance updates: RCMS portable air conditioning units have been removed and that project is about 95% complete; Beatty Elementary’s new roof is finished except for some flashing; Pahrump Valley High School received a state permit for an effluent water tank and staff will be trained to transition from city water. He also said the Tonopah Sports Complex is scheduled to begin after the 2026 football season with a goal of hosting its first game before the 2027 season, and that PVHS track resurfacing is included in the district’s five‑year plan.
