The McKinney Independent School District board on April 20 approved a proposed 3.5% compensation increase for all staff for the 2026–27 school year and directed administrators to return with a detailed compensation plan. Administration told the board the increase is based on midpoint adjustments and aims to support recruitment and retention.
"We're recommending a 3.5% increase for all staff based on the midpoint of the pay grade," the administration presenter said, and noted the recommendation would set the district’s starting teacher salary at $64,700. The presenter also said the bilingual teacher stipend would rise from $3,000 to $5,000 to help fill hard‑to‑staff roles. After a motion and a second, the board voted to approve the increase and will receive the full compensation plan in a future meeting.
Board members asked how the increase compares to neighboring districts and about employee benefits; administration said neighboring districts have taken increases ranging roughly from 2% to 3% this spring. The presenter said the proposed adjustments were included in the budget update presented that evening and will be reflected in the formal compensation package presented at a later date. The motion to approve carried following the vote.
