A district finance presenter told trustees the amended budget review tonight focused on revenue: the ADA figure used when the budget was prepared ($54.75) is now $56.92, an increase the presenter said moves the district “in the right direction.” The presenter explained that while local tax rates are unchanged, changes to the homestead exemption (from $100,000 to $140,000) increased property values but reduced taxable values; the result is a net increase in state funding of about $7.1 million, with the caveat that $1.4 million of that is designated for teacher and support staff retention allotments.
The presenter said recapture decreased by roughly $606,000 due to the changes in taxable value and that staff will return in September with expenditure amendments after the first payroll is processed. On district real property, staff said an additional parcel (1317 North Joe Wilson Road) that had not previously been appraised is now valued at $2,500,000 and will be brought to the board in September for approval to list it for sale; the parcel is just under 38 acres and is located near Fuel City with a substation across the street.
