Commission removes names from police eligibility lists; two full-time openings noted

The Avon Civil Service Commission voted Jan. 5 to remove names from both the Entry Police and Lateral Police eligibility lists after department updates.
Police Chief Daniel Fischbach told the commission that the National Testing Network (NTN) has produced a broad candidate pool but that "a large range of candidates take the exam, but there have been more candidates asking to be removed, failed to respond, or did not pass the physical agility test sooner." He added, "The good news is that there is a sufficient number of candidates still on the list. The department is actively working on the new entry list. There are 2 full-time openings as of today."
Recording Secretary Diane Szlempa reported that for the lateral list four names were added and five removed (one hired, four expired). The commission approved removing names from both the Entry Police Eligibility List and the Police Lateral Eligibility List; both motions passed unanimously 3-0.
The department will continue to manage the lists and pursue new testing or hiring as needed to fill current openings.
