Crowley ISD outlines back-to-school schedule; enrollment edges up about 150 students

"The 1st day of school is almost here. Just over a week away," Kirschner said as he reviewed the district's calendar and community outreach plan. He reported that, as of the close of business the day before the meeting, 16,296 students were enrolled — roughly 150 more than on the same date last year — and that the district employs 2,432 staff members.
Kirschner highlighted a ribbon-cutting for Baylor Elementary School (a 2023 voter-approved bond project) scheduled for Friday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m., and reminded the board the district is continuing communication about construction impacts at Crowley High School and other campuses. He also noted a safety requirement for secondary students: clear backpacks will be required.
The presentation emphasized outreach plans: a pair of Zoom Q&A sessions with Doctor McFarland the weekend before school starts and targeted messages to families, as well as red-carpet welcome events across campuses on the first day. Trustees thanked staff for summer work and asked no substantive follow-up questions during this portion of the meeting.
Next steps: the district will continue registration outreach ahead of Aug. 12 and complete final preparations for campus openings and the Baylor Elementary ribbon-cutting.
