Faculty, Civil Service and Student senates report fall activities and upcoming meetings

Representatives from faculty, civil service and student governance reported fall term activity and plans for the spring during the Dec. 5 Committee of the Whole.
Faculty Senate President Joshua Sopiarz said the Senate completed its regular fall meetings and will hold a special meeting with President Ester on Dec. 18, 2025; he announced that Dr. Barbra Winke will leave emeritus service and Dr. Catherine Timko will assume the emeritus senator role. Sopiarz also described adding student presentations to Senate meetings and thanked Chair Kvedaras for supporting a campus drive that collected "six to seven boxes" of food and hygiene items for the GSU food pantry.
Civil Service President Susie Morris summarized a Nov. 3 town hall with President Ester, saying the discussion focused on investing in civil service professional development, shared governance, remote work and tuition waivers. She said Morris and President Ester will meet monthly and that Civil Service Day is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2026; she also said the Civil Service Senate now has 24 senators.
Student Senate President Sean O'Brien reported a productive fall and said the Student Senate will hold a retreat in January 2026 to set goals for the spring; he confirmed meetings for February–April on the second Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in Engbretson Hall.
