Friendship ISD expands CTE offerings, starts Fire Academy dual-credit with South Plains College

Tyra Flores presented the district's CTE report and highlighted program growth and new partnerships. "We have 28 state approved programs for CTE... We also offer 35 industry based certifications in our district," Flores said, adding that certifications are paid for by the district and that "last year, we had 612 certifications passed in our district."
Flores described a new Fire Academy offered through South Plains College as a dual-credit course (7 students enrolled) that runs mornings and requires students to pass a civil service exam and physical-agility test; the program also includes practicums and expanded work-based learning. She said the district is hosting more local competitions—recently launching a tractor competition drawing 17 teams from 11 school districts—and partners with community businesses (example: United Supermarkets sponsoring construction materials for a Casa house project).
