The Iowa House convened and proceeded with its opening rituals before moving into legislative business. The presiding chair called the House to order and said the prayer would be led by Representative Crokin of Scott.
Representative Crokin delivered a brief reflection quoting Edward Everett Hale: “I am only 1, but I am 1. I cannot do everything, but I can do something.” The chamber then recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The chair asked the body to consider the journal; the journal "stands approved," the chair announced.
The opening actions concluded without debate and the House proceeded to the first reading of bills and the day’s introductions.
