Kingsford approves Northpointe 5K and street closures for graduation and track finals

The council approved multiple community event requests for May 2026. It authorized Northpointe’s 4th annual untimed 5K Color Walk/Run on May 16, 2026 to raise mental health awareness; organizers will coordinate with Kingsford Public Safety and use the same route as prior years.
Separately, council approved street closures to support Breitung Township Schools’ graduation on May 23 (approved closure 6 a.m.–noon) and the Upper Peninsula High School Track and Field Finals on May 30 (approved closure 6 a.m.–4 p.m.). The minutes note approximately 50 schools will participate in the track finals at the renovated Flivver Field. Both motions passed unanimously.
The approvals direct staff to coordinate public safety and traffic flow with event organizers; no additional funding or liability arrangements were recorded in the minutes.
