City staff told the Citizens Advisory Committee that Kingsford has an opportunity to apply for a curbside recycling cart grant; if the city receives the grant, it could reduce the pending monthly cost per household by almost $1. Committee members briefly discussed the program but took no formal action at the Jan. 12 meeting.
The minutes state the city attempted a volunteer curbside recycling program for about a year but did not receive enough volunteers to sustain it, and due to provider requirements the city adopted mandatory curbside recycling for all residents. Staff presented the cart grant as a means to lower the out-of-pocket monthly cost for households.
