Police Chief Hudson told council two department cruisers were totaled in 2025 and insurance recoveries totaling about $102,000 are available; he asked council to transfer those funds into the 2026 capital budget to replace the vehicles so the department would not need to use other 2026 funds.
Chief Hudson told council that upfitting each replacement vehicle will cost about $18,000 to $20,000 and that the finance and Safety & Public Works committees reviewed the request and supported passing it as an emergency. Council members voiced unanimous committee support and approved the ordinance on suspension of the rules.
