"Our 1st goal in the district...we measure literacy by looking at reading proficiency and particularly at our 5th grade reading proficiency — our goal is by 2030 we'll be at 71%," McFarland said. He described related targets for numeracy (65% 'meets' level by 2030) and a CCMR goal the district has framed as a 'future ready' target, noting multiple metrics and an academic quality review scheduled for December.
McFarland said the district currently tracks several interim measures, including 3rd‑grade reading tied to House Bill 3, and reported the district was at roughly 94% on a current CCMR measure and expects further improvement. He told trustees administrators will return in December with a quality review that situates present performance relative to the 2030 goals.
Board members asked about continuing parent outreach sessions and how those sessions will be expanded; McFarland said 'Mondays with McFarland' and virtual campus sessions will continue through the spring semester to increase family engagement and understanding of the district goals. The superintendent framed the targets as aspirational but tied to specific annual progress measures the district will report to the board.
