Student trustees reported campus highlights and proposed a student-voice peer-mentoring initiative focused on mental-health support and transition guidance.
Zoe Johnson (Crowley High School) asked for trustees’ support for student-voice mentors to help younger students and advocated creating peer mentors who check in not only when problems arise but to provide general guidance. She said the program could be led by student-trustees and linked to campus advising times to ensure accessibility.
Trustees responded with logistical questions about cadence, advising periods and scalability. Trustee Watkins suggested an advising period to facilitate meetings during the day; Trustee Davis suggested pairing sophomores and freshmen to expand capacity and create a pipeline into junior-trustee roles. Administration indicated campuses already vary in how they schedule advising and that principals are communicating regularly with families.
Trustee comments were uniformly supportive and asked student trustees to draft a plan that could be circulated to trustees for feedback.
