Board approves list of states comparable for MFT endorsement

On March 23, 2026 the Counseling Professionals, Board of Licensure approved a list of states whose marriage and family therapy (MFT)-equivalent licenses the board deems comparable to Maine’s requirements, allowing qualified practitioners from those states to apply by endorsement. The motion was made by Angela Blier and seconded by Ellen Grunblatt; the vote was 5 in favor.
The states approved for MFT endorsement were Alabama, Arizona, California, Delaware, Georgia, New York, Rhode Island, Utah, Virginia, Vermont and Tennessee. The board recorded the motion and will update its endorsement guidance accordingly.
