The Counseling Professionals, Board of Licensure voted on March 23, 2026 to approve a set of states whose licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC)-equivalent credentials are comparable to Maine's requirements, enabling applicants from those states to apply for licensure by endorsement. The motion, made by Ellen Grunblatt and seconded by Joanne Grant, passed with five votes in favor.
The board listed the approved states as Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The board explicitly determined Ohio was not comparable for the endorsement pathway. The action will allow applicants who hold the correct qualifying license type from the approved states to pursue endorsement in Maine.
