UT seeks P3 childcare center in Cherokee Mills to serve faculty, staff and students

University of Tennessee president Randy Boyd asked the commission to approve issuing a request for proposals for a public-private partnership to develop a childcare center in the Cherokee Mills Complex to serve the campus community.
"The project will provide a childcare center in the Cherokee Mills Complex to meet the expanding childcare needs of the University of Tennessee Knoxville," Boyd said. He added that the facility would be managed by a third party using some university space and estimated it would "hold about 100 and 50 children" (transcript phrasing indicating about 150 children).
A committee member praised the proactive approach, noting childcare shortages in the Knoxville area and asking Boyd to describe the university’s thinking. After brief discussion the commission approved the motion to issue the RFP by voice vote.
