TWRA gains approval to acquire roughly 3,295 acres for North Cumberland expansion

Jason Macdonald, executive director of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, described a planned acquisition of approximately 3,295 acres in Campbell County known as the Rarity Mountain tracts. He said the parcels lie along Pine Mountain Road and would be added to the High Cliff unit of the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area to expand public hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities.
Macdonald said the property was identified in 2021 as part of the Tennessee wildlife legacy plan and lies within an area of interest for the Heritage Conservation Trust Fund. He told the committee that no new management costs are expected and that operations would be supported by TWRA’s wetlands acquisition fund and federal wildlife restoration grant funding. The committee approved the acquisition by voice vote.
