Subcommittee approves two Clinch River tracts to support new state park

Bill Avant, senior real property manager for the Bureau of Conservation, asked the subcommittee to approve two acquisitions along the Clinch River to support development of a new state park. He said the first tract is 21 acres on the river's north end near Horton Ford, intended to provide access and support both operational and capital projects.
Avant described a second property at Kyle's Ford that includes existing cabins that could serve as a turnkey visitor center and park operations site. He told commissioners the acquisitions will create a series of access points along the Clinch River and connect recreational paddling opportunities with Virginia. The items were moved, seconded, and approved by voice vote.
