Commission adopts inaugural UT Southern master plan, cites growth goals and historic preservation

Sam Weibel of Hastings Architecture presented the inaugural master plan for UT Southern (the former Martin Methodist College), describing a strategy to preserve historic campus features while preparing for growth.
Weibel said the plan is built on three pillars — academic excellence and innovation, transformational student experience and campus community connectedness — and highlighted a baseline growth scenario of 5% and an aspirational 6.5%. He noted the campus' current maximum capacity is "approximately 1,300," described priority projects including a connector, student-union expansion, a hybrid residence hall and an auxiliary gym, and cited a 600-acre parcel donated in Elkton as part of growth planning.
The commission moved, seconded and approved the master plan by voice vote. Weibel said the plan aims to preserve features such as the historic green and gazebo, create pedestrian quads and align future development with enrollment projections.
