Senate opens, welcomes student groups and adjourns to Jan. 27 after routine business

The presiding officer opened the Iowa Senate, recognized student groups from Cedar Falls, Bettendorf and Mason City, recorded a caucus announcement and approved a motion to adjourn to Jan. 27 at 9 a.m.
The presiding officer called the Iowa Senate to order and announced the day's prayer and pledge. Senator Costello (Mills) offered the opening prayer and the chamber recited the pledge of allegiance.
Senators introduced visiting student groups: Senator Sires welcomed guests from Cedar Falls Community School District, Senator Zimmer introduced students and an advisor from Bettendorf Community School District, and Senator Campbell introduced Mason City Alternative High School students and described their service mission. Later in the session Senator Weiner announced that Democrats would caucus in Room 24.
The presiding officer recognized the senator from Wenatchee, Senator Clemish, who moved that the Senate adjourn to Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 9 a.m. The presiding officer called for 'aye' and 'nay,' declared the motion prevailed and adjourned the Senate.
