Rowlett City Council on Aug. 5 authorized the city manager to execute and submit the city's ballot indicating acceptance of the 13th amended joint chapter 11 plan of reorganization for Purdue Pharma LP.
City Attorney Thomas explained the bankruptcy path and that the reorganization would transfer assets to a public‑benefit company focused on developing and distributing opioid‑treatment and overdose‑reversal medications; she noted the city is eligible as a class member and that proceeds from the bankruptcy channel and associated settlements would be limited to uses that address opioid addiction and its consequences.
Council approved the motion to authorize submission of the ballot by a vote of 6–0. Staff said the city will receive additional communications about the timing and amounts once the bankruptcy process yields a final distribution schedule.
