Council reviews committee and commission assignments; proposes updating Council rules

President of Council Dan Rospert reviewed committee chairs and commission appointments for the new 2026–2027 term and solicited discussion in committee. He noted Julie Darlington had served as Clerk of Council and said Rachel Wallace had been Deputy Clerk; nominations for those positions will be made at the full Council meeting per Law Director Bradley Proudfoot’s advice.
Rospert read committee assignments (Public Ways chaired by Chris Maxwell; Economic Development & Planning chaired by Jeanne Hines; Public Service chaired by Tom Stugmyer; Public Safety chaired by Jon Yurchiak) and listed commission appointments. He also proposed removing a longstanding rule that required councilmembers to notify the Clerk when they spent a night outside city limits, calling it an “old rule” now made unnecessary by modern communication; Council Member Mike Reese said he agreed with removing it. No formal vote on the rules change was recorded in committee; nominations and formal elections will occur at the Council meeting.
