Rowlett votes to suspend CoServ GRIP gas rate increase for 45 days

The Rowlett City Council voted unanimously on Aug. 19 to suspend the Sept. 17 effective date for CoServ Gas's requested interim GRIP rate adjustment, delaying implementation for up to 45 days to allow legal counsel and the steering committee to review the company's filing.
Assistant City Manager Renissa Wade told council the filing is based on a review period ending Dec. 31, 2024, and that CoServ contends it made roughly $267 million in system investments that would be recovered through rates. Wade said the city cannot fully protest GRIP filings but can suspend the effective date for the maximum 45‑day review period so the steering committee's attorneys can examine whether there are grounds to contest parts of the filing.
Wade said the proposed change equates to about $3.33 per month for Rowlett residents. The council voted to suspend the effective date, which would push implementation into November and give the city's outside counsel time to assess the filing.
"This increase is based on a prior year review ending December 2024 of the amount of investments that they made into the system," Wade said. "The rate increase will equate to about $3.33 per month to the residents of Rowlett."
