Rowlett City Council approved a tree removal permit for a planned food‑truck yard called "Munchies and Mutts" on Aug. 19 by a 6–1 vote.
Staff said the approximately 3.19‑acre site at 6851 Lakeview Parkway would remove nine trees and protect the remainder under the city's tree preservation calculations, and that Planning & Zoning had unanimously recommended approval. Staff presented the mitigation calculations and explained that the reforestation fund required no mitigation payment based on the site's protected caliper inches.
Council discussion showed split views: some members praised the developer for preserving prominent on‑site trees and said the preserved trees would be an asset to the development. One councilmember who had previously voted against the project in Planning & Zoning reiterated opposition, citing resident concerns behind the site. After discussion Bowers moved to approve the permit with conditions; the motion passed 6–1.
The permit allows the project to proceed under the tree preservation plan and the site development approval granted earlier in 2025.
