Council sets maximum tax-rate ceiling for publication, calls Sept. 16 public hearing

At the Aug. 11 meeting, the council voted unanimously to approve a resolution calling for a public hearing on the FY26 proposed budget and tax rate and to publish the voter-approval maximum tax rate of 0.841997. Finance presenter Wendy Badgett told the council the published rate is a ceiling for the public-notice process and not the final adopted rate: "Council is not adopting the actual tax rate tonight," she said, adding that the published rate preserves the council's option to adopt any lower rate on final adoption.
A councilor moved to approve the resolution and was seconded; the motion carried 7-0. Badgett said the tax-rate hearing will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025, at 7:00 PM, with a special meeting the following evening (Sept. 17) available to adopt a final tax rate if needed. The motion and vote were recorded on the meeting record.
