Board cleans up District of Innovation plan, removes several exemptions and clarifies grievance timelines

Plano ISD trustees approved amendments to the district’s District of Innovation (DOI) plan, removing several outdated exemptions and adding a clarification about grievance timelines.
Presenters said the DOI changes remove exemptions that are no longer allowable or used: exemption numbers 2, 4, 9, 10 and 11 were identified for removal because recent statutory changes render them inapplicable or because the district no longer relies on them. The board also approved adding a new exemption entry (to become exemption number 8 after renumbering) that clarifies the grievance timelines: where a statute uses the term “days,” the district will define those as business days to preserve response capacity during school breaks.
Courtney Gober and Lisa Wilson explained the procedural steps that follow board approval: the amendment will be submitted to the TEA and posted on the district website. Trustees voted 7–0 to approve the changes.
