Plano ISD board authorizes independent audit after TEA notifies district of special investigation

Board President Lauren Tyra told the assembled audience that the district had been notified by the Texas Education Agency late on Aug. 13 that Plano ISD is the subject of a special investigation. Tyra acknowledged individual incidents of antisemitic behavior reported to the district, rejected the charge of deliberate indifference, and recommended the board authorize an independent third‑party audit into allegations related to antisemitism and civil‑rights compliance.
"We were notified finally by the TEA late in the afternoon on 08/13/2025 that we are under special investigation," Tyra said, and added that the district will cooperate fully. She proposed engaging a firm with expertise in antisemitism, harassment, Title VI, and civil‑rights practice to conduct a thorough audit of policies, practices and systems.
Trustee Nancy Humphrey moved that the board authorize the president to retain such a firm; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Tyra said the audit will be paired with continued engagement with Jewish community partners and other local experts and that the district will not wait for the TEA report to continue internal work to strengthen responses to bias and harassment.
