Council waives May Day special-event fees for Innovative Minds of Crestview

City Manager Levins described the May Day event organizers, who have formed a nonprofit called the Innovative Minds of Crestview and submitted their permit today. He asked the council to waive special-event permitting fees for the group's first year; "I think in the spirit of cooperation and how hard they've worked ... it would be an appropriate gesture of cooperation and community spirit for us to waive those fees," Levins said.
Councilwoman Niles moved to waive the fees and Councilman Hayes seconded; the council approved the motion 5–0. Staff said organizers have been fundraising and that the city will continue to support volunteerism month events, Citizens Academy registration and related community programming.
