Council authorizes negotiation of one-year pool services contract for Crestview Recreation Center

City officials told the council on May 11 that the city purchased the facility formerly known as The Rock and will refer to it as the Crestview Recreation Center. The city manager said the parks and recreation department lacks certified pool staff, so the city seeks authorization to negotiate a one-year contract with an individual or operator who can provide certified lifeguards, scheduling and pool management services until the city can develop internal capacity.
"We are looking to enter into a contract with this individual to provide these services for us, at least until we can learn how to do it," the city manager said. The council voted to allow the city manager and the city attorney to negotiate the contract and return to council for final approval; the motion carried 5 to 0.
City staff said the one-year term is intended as a pilot period to monitor the arrangement before determining a longer-term approach and that the negotiated agreement will include mutually beneficial terms and required certifications for lifeguard operations.
