GovState president outlines priorities; enrollment flat, retention at 60%

President Joyce Ester presented a report at the Board of Trustees meeting on Aug. 18 summarizing her first weeks on campus and outlining administrative priorities. She told trustees that enrollment was "largely flat" year-over-year and that retention stood at 60 percent, and she said the university is working to align a new Strategic Framework with other planning documents to guide institutional priorities.
Ester highlighted recent external engagement and funding: GovState was among ten institutions awarded a pluralism grant and will host an International Restorative Justice Conference Sept. 30E28093Oct. 1. She also reported that the university joined the University Center at the College of Lake County and that External Affairs hosted 173 elected officials at the university's July 16 birthday event. On financial affairs, Ester said a priority is enhancing student affordability by helping students with outstanding balances and offering more payment options to support continued enrollment.
