Town reports improved water compliance and plans cross-connection protections and apprenticeship funding

Town staff reported the water system is back into compliance with state requirements and that penalty points have been reduced. A new cross-connection administrator introduced himself and described plans to distribute small anti-backflow devices for hoses and hydrants to protect the system from contamination.

"I'm the new administrator for the cross connection grama I want to attest today," Administrator, cross-connection (S5) said, and staff described that the devices are a low-cost preventive measure on customer hoses to avoid backflow into the town system. Staff also said they are pursuing an apprenticeship grant that would provide funding to purchase tools and support workforce development for water operations.

Council asked staff to follow up on administrator access and app logins for operations software so that the town can manage cross-connection oversight effectively. No formal expenditure was approved at the meeting, but council supported the plan to pursue grant funding and distribute anti-backflow devices to customers as a proactive public-health measure.
