CRA awards beautification grants, sees development interest at Fox Theater, brewery and hardware-to-restaurant permit

Staff reported two downtown beautification grants awarded last year—one to Bloom Beauty Bar for a mural and awnings and one to Be a Lion for signage and awnings—and said additional grant applications remain under review.
The City Manager also updated the board on private development interest: the Fox Theater shows visible progress, a developer filed an application for Alga Brewery next to Coney Island, and staff recently received a building-permit application to remodel Crestview Hardware into a restaurant. Board members said these projects, along with completed streetscape work, should help draw more daytime and evening activity downtown.
Staff said they continue to highlight CRA incentives when talking with developers and business owners to encourage projects that support a “live-work-play” downtown environment.
