The Crestview City Council voted to consent to the assignment of the city's solid waste recycling collection franchise as the Adams Sanitation ownership transition moves forward. Staff told the council the assignment triggers a contract provision requiring a $500,000 nonrefundable service charge to the city; the county had approved a similar assignment on April 7. City staff said they would recommend earmarking the funds for recreation programs and for the Arts and Learning Center.
An Adams Sanitation representative told the council the company will remain locally active and described the business's growth from two employees to about 120 employees serving more than 30,000 customers in Northwest Florida. The representative said the transition will include community contributions: "we're gonna make a 20,000 contribution to the city library system," and later added a personal pledge of another $20,000 toward pool renovations. Council members asked whether the assignment itself would raise rates; the company's legal representative and staff said the transfer alone does not change rates and that price adjustments are governed by contractual CPI provisions or changing tipping fees.
After discussion the council approved the staff-recommended consent to the transfer; the meeting record shows the motion passed by voice vote with four yes votes and one absence. Council members thanked the company for its local presence and the announced community donations. Staff said follow-up will include specifying how the $500,000 allocation will be programmed for recreation priorities and the Arts and Learning Center.
