Staff told the board that planning and zoning updated the land development code to require new downtown buildings to follow existing Main Street patterns — including placement near the sidewalk, appropriate landscaping and sidewalkscape features — to help preserve the streetscape.
The City Manager also said the code amendments include a restriction on large commercial trucks on Main Street to protect improvements and new language to minimize e-bike traffic. Staff framed the changes as efforts to align future development with the character of Main Street and protect recent streetscape investments.
Separately, staff said bid opening for a Main Street sidewalk staining project will occur later this month as a final step of the streetscape project.
