The Crestview City Council voted to approve Ordinance 2020 on its first reading, moving a rezoning request for approximately 1.57 acres at Aplin and Brookmeade from the Mixed Use zoning district to an R-3 single- and multi-family dwelling district. Planning staff told the council the application was received on Feb. 16, the Planning and Development Board recommended approval on April 6, and all noticing requirements had been met. The clerk read the ordinance title into the record before council action.
Planning staff noted the applicant paid $750 in fees and $212.50 for advertising. During the meeting the staff presenter stated that the intent appears to be creating lots with setbacks appropriate for single-family homes. After questions were invited, the council voted to approve the ordinance on first reading; the clerk announced, "Motion carries 5 to 0." The matter will return to the council for a second reading before final adoption.
No public speakers registered against the rezoning at the meeting. The city recorded the first-reading vote in the meeting minutes and scheduled the item for second-reading consideration as the next procedural step.
